NOW BOOKING SUPASTITION TOUR – JULY / AUGUST

After emerging from a virtually unrecognized state at the time, North Carolina’s Supastition has single-handedly built an extensive career in hip hop and slowly become one of the elite emcees in the industry today. Choosing to shy away from the limelight and focus solely on the music itself, his consistency has propelled him into national attention in addition to gaining the respect of those listeners who appreciate true lyricism.

Born in the small town of Greenville, NC, Supastition quickly made a name for himself through radio and street battles after relocating to Charlotte, NC in the late 90’s. After inking a deal with Rasco (of Cali Agents) to release his self-produced 12” in 2002, Broke Man’s Anthem, Supastition followed up the limited vinyl release with his first full length album, 7 Years of Bad Luck, On Freshchest Records. Supastition enjoyed his first taste of national recognition in 2004 via the Okayplayer Records (spearheaded by ?uestlove of the Roots) when his collaboration, The Williams, with Foreign Exchange producer Nicolay. The Williams was selected out of 5,000 entries to appear on the True Notes Vol. 1 compilation alongside songs by the likes of The Roots, Jean Grae, Dilated Peoples, RJD2, and Madlib. Supa was personally invited by ?uestlove to briefly perform on stage with The Roots backing him during the Charlotte stop of the Okayplayer Tour in 2004. Later that year, Supastition joined forces with Philadelphia-based Soulspazm Records to release his critically acclaimed, The Deadline EP and Chain Letters which opened the floodgates to national attention with praiseworthy ratings in XXL’s Chairnman’s Choice, The Source’s Independent’s Day, XLR8R, the now defunct Scratch Magazine (4 out of 5), and numerous other publications. The legendary Rawkus Records re-release the Chain Letters in 2006 after joining forces with Soulspazm Records. The projects boasted production by an up and coming Jake One, !llmind, M-phazes, Nicolay, and Dela with the singles for the Illmind-produced “Boombox”and Jake One-crafted “Hate My Face”reaching the top of the college radio charts. The combined success of The Deadline and Chain Letters utilizing international producers allowed Supastition to headline tours in 3 continents (US, Europe, Australia) and 12 countries (Germany, France, Canada, Norway) with a 3-year span.

Shortly after choosing to bid adieu to Soulspazm and Rawkus, Supa chose to distribute his own music via his newly formed Reform School Music label. The first release was the digital and limited edition CD version of Leave of Absence EP. The EP showcased production by !llmind, Marco Polo, Khrysis, The Mighty DR, and others. Supa then decided to temporarily drop his rap alias to record under the shortened version of his government name, Kam Moye. The free download of Kam Moye ‘Self-Centered EP’ received over 4000+ in less than 24 hours with virtually no promotion. The controversial music video, Black Enough, caught on like wildfire and even received thousands of views on popular blogs such as NahRight.com, 2dopeboyz, and WorldStarHipHop. The attention from the Kam Moye EP was followed by the Kam Moye full length album, Splitting Image, on MYX Music Label/eOne Distribution in 2008. The lead single and video for ‘Let’s Be Honest’ once again propelled Kam into national attention again with a feature and airplay on MTVu’s The Freshman video segment. The full length release featured indie hip hop heavyweights Phonte, One Be Lo, Zion I, Invincible, and John Robinson with the soundtrack being provided by longtime producers M-Phazes, !llmind, Jake One, and The Mighty DR with help from Grammy award-winning producer Symbolyc One, Vitamin D, Veterano, and Khrysis.

The true example of dedication paying off, Supa has graced songs with respected artists like KRS One, Little Brother, Royce da 5’9”, Elzhi (Slum Village), Stoupe (formerly of Jedi Mind Tricks), DJ Rhettmatic, Bahamadia, Marco Polo, J-Live, Torae, Skyzoo, Tanya Morgan, and Cunninlynguists just to name a few. Following an impressive debut on the World Famous Wake Up Show, King Tech gave Supastition the stamp of approval to appear on the star studded ‘Wake Up Show Anthem 2010’ featuring The RZA, Ras Kass, Crooked I, Tech N9ne, B-Real of Cypress Hill, Tajai of Souls of Mischief, and DJ Revolution. He has also performed in major cities with indie hip hop favorites such as Pete Rock, Jedi Mind Tricks, Kardinal Offishal, Little Brother, J-Live, Homeboy Sandman, Aceyalone, and Oddisee.

After a shocking, sudden departure from the music industry in 2010 due to personal reasons, Supastition returned in late 2012 with the critically acclaimed “The Blackboard EP”. Although released initially as a free download via Bandcamp, the response was overwhelming from fans and praised by some of hip hop’s elite. Artists such as DJ Premier, Bumpy Knuckles, Beatminerz, and countless others have shown support by playing tracks from The Blackboard on their radio shows and podcasts. The music video for the single, Yada Yada, reached over 10,000 views in one week on Youtube by word of mouth without any label assistance. With a recharged hunger and focus, Supa is prepared to make the world “believe in Supastition” again.
